“What an amazing show! The expo boasts abundant new varieties and advanced technologies. In particular, the diverse array of tropical houseplants is an eye-opener – every minute here is well worth the trip!” an excited attendee remarked as he hurried toward the exhibition hall pulling a rolling suitcase.

Hosted at China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Venue) in Beijing, Hortiflorexpo IPM Beijing 2026 opened its doors on April 10. Spanning a total exhibition area of around 40,000 square metres, the event gathers nearly 700 enterprises from more than 20 countries and regions, featuring an extensive lineup of new products, innovative technologies and latest achievements across the entire flower industry chain.

Premium New Flower Varieties & Tropical Houseplants Steal the Spotlight

Selecting the right cultivars is key to avoiding unnecessary setbacks in cultivation. A dedicated new-variety pavilion covering over 200 square metres displays nearly 300 cultivars including roses, hydrangeas and gerberas, with domestically-bred varieties accounting for roughly 30% of the collection.

Highlights include Boda Blue, a cut-flower hydrangea from Kunming Yang Rose that dominates 60% of China’s domestic cut hydrangea market, and carnation ‘Hongfu’ developed by Binfen Horticulture. Also featured are trending new cultivars such as rose ‘Baohua’ bred by the Flower Research Institute of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and slipper orchid ‘Huasheng’ from Lvyuan Horticulture in Qianxinan.

Leading international plant breeders have all set up prominent booths at the show. Dümmen Orange Agri-Bio (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. unveiled star cultivars including pelargonium ‘Queen Rose’ and the “Secret Land” series of pot mums, with multiple new colour variants such as ‘Golden Autumn Secret Land’, ‘Cherry Pink Secret Land’ and ‘Autumn Secret Land’ making their global debut at the expo.

Kunming Anthura Horticulture Co., Ltd., which holds a 95% share of China’s young anthurium seedling market, launched its proprietary flower brand “Xinyu Huaya” (Heartfelt Blooms), focusing on flowers as carriers of emotional expression. Its standout miniature phalaenopsis novelty ‘Anthurium Nazareth’ features compact plant size yet heavy flowering: a 12cm-diameter pot can produce an average of 70 blooms, and the cultivar can even grow in tiny 6cm pots, ideal for home gardening and compact living spaces.

Sileta Horticulture Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. presented an array of new poinsettia varieties. Among them, ‘Rose Petal Coat’ works well both as a potted plant and cut flower, boasting a vase life of over one month; carnation ‘Menghe’ also doubles as pot and cut flower. The firm additionally launched mini cup-grown mint potted plants to cater to diversified household gardening demands.

Domestic growers delivered equally impressive displays. Binfen Horticulture (China) Co., Ltd. showcased self-bred blockbuster varieties including phalaenopsis ‘Xincheng’ and hydrangeas ‘Skirt with Tiny Petals’ and ‘Crimson Lips’. Guangzhou Dahan Horticulture Development Co., Ltd. exhibited a full spectrum of products ranging from seedlings, growing medium and fertilisers to horticultural facilities, with its key promoted Rieger begonia ‘Baris’ blooming two weeks earlier than the classic benchmark variety ‘Bucks’.

Guangzhou Flower Research Centre rolled out new findings on potted anthurium breeding. Hongmei Horticulture Group displayed evergreen alpine rhododendrons ‘Guifei’ and ‘Makena’, plus deciduous garden-type rhododendrons ‘Pink Soft’ and ‘Pink Hydrangea’. Shandong Shuangfu Flowers Co., Ltd. featured anthuriums and phalaenopsis, alongside exclusive-agent anthurium ‘Aloha’ – a heat-and-humidity-resistant cultivar that retains its colour, symbolising “everlasting undying love”. Qingzhou Qianhui Bonsai & Seedling Specialised Farmers’ Cooperative put on show numerous self-developed caladium cultivars, including an unnamed novelty with only over 20 specimens existing worldwide priced at 2,600 RMB apiece for its unique foliage patterns.

Shanghai Aimo Horticulture Co., Ltd. brought close to 50 new hippeastrum varieties, among which double-petalled red cultivar ‘Double King’ and milk-tea-cup-grown hippeastrums drew massive visitor interest. Changyi Yuanhua Horticulture Co., Ltd. focused on long-spike wisteria, with European-bred ‘Amethyst’ flowering three times annually and exceeding 20,000 units in annual sales via Douyin.

Tropical houseplants stand out as another major highlight of the edition. Partnering with the Thailand Pavilion, the expo hosted a large-scale northern showcase of tropical houseplants. Premium varieties including caladium, staghorn fern, philodendron, anthurium and monstera were all on full view, complemented by tuberous succulents and tropical-plant themed cultural merchandise. The Hainan Flower Association also led a delegation to exhibit unique tropical flowers and green plants native to Hainan Province.

Smart Equipment & Horticultural Supplies Fuel Industrial Upgrade

A comprehensive range of garden machinery and horticultural supplies was exhibited alongside cutting-edge smart agricultural technology shaping the future of the industry.

Global frontrunners in new-energy garden machinery, including Greenworks (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. and Positec Technology (China) Co., Ltd., showcased multiple intelligent ride-on lawn mowers equipped with AI vision navigation systems. The emission-free, low-noise machines eliminate the hassle of regular engine oil replacement. JDONGCHENG, the premium brand under China’s leading power tool maker Jiangsu Dongcheng, brought a full product portfolio covering pruning shears, lawn trimmers and hedge cutters, driving efficient horticultural operations via technological innovation.

Luyou Machinery Group Co., Ltd. displayed diversified garden equipment spanning lawn trimming and plant protection spraying equipment. Zibo Meike Refrigeration showcased independently developed 24-hour self-service flower vending machines and fresh flower refrigerated cabinets tailor-made for florist retailers. In the greenhouse technology sector, Beijing Huanong Agricultural Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. featured its high-end steel cable curtain rolling system under the Bilikai brand, as well as custom-built autonomous greenhouse transport robots capable of self-navigation, optimal route planning, automatic recharging and intelligent obstacle avoidance. Beijing Ruixue Global Technology Co., Ltd., a specialist in greenhouse design, construction and integrated horticultural solutions, saw strong market reception for its sunshade & cooling eco-friendly coating. Beijing Fenglong Greenhouse Technology Co., Ltd. exhibited three core product lines: polymer materials, electromechanical equipment and automated greenhouse control systems, with products exported to more than 80 countries. Beijing Jingpeng Global Technology Co., Ltd. unveiled holistic intelligent modern greenhouse system solutions.
