Premium New Plants: Major Crowd Drawers

Novel high-quality plant varieties are always the biggest attraction at the expo. Peonies, tree peonies, tropical houseplants, double-flowered lilies, hippeastrums, hydrangeas and assorted bedding flowers dazzle visitors with unique charms. Breeders and seedling suppliers keep upgrading their flagship product lines by optimizing flower colour, bloom shape, stress resistance, flowering period and production cycle. Meanwhile, they pioneer new application modes to fuel the booming home gardening trend.

Herbaceous peonies have surged in popularity in recent years, with multiple best-selling cultivars featured at the show, alongside numerous newly-bred varieties gaining wide attention. The thriving market for cut herbaceous peonies has also boosted the development of cut tree peonies.

The tropical houseplant zone boasts a full lineup of caladiums, staghorn ferns, philodendrons, anthuriums and begonias, including multiple rare cultivars. Long queues formed in front of many booths, a vivid reflection of visitors’ immense enthusiasm.

Spotlight on Domestically-Bred Cultivars

A dedicated premium new variety display area was set up for the event, exhibiting nearly 300 flower cultivars, around 30% of which are independently bred domestically. Leading participants presenting home-grown varieties include the Flower Research Institute of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Kunming Yang Rose, Binfen Horticulture, Sirius Rose, Yunxiu Horticulture and Jinhai Horticulture.
